The countdown to Christmas is well underway. The Casey Grammar Reception is looking festive and fabulous and Christmas tunes are beginning to play in shopping centres, elevators and homes. It is time to look forward and prepare for Christmas and the end of year holidays.

The season of Advent is just that – a time of preparing and looking forward to celebrating the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day. You may have an Advent calendar where you count down the 25 days until Christmas. Over the next two weeks, the Casey Grammar community will gather together to celebrate the year that has been and we will look forward with hope and joy to Christmas.

With each day that we countdown to Christmas this year, let’s take a moment to pause with gratitude and thankfulness for something in our day – perhaps you’ll do it as you savor the sweet treat in your advent calendar, or while sitting with your family at the breakfast or dinner table. In the midst of the busyness, let’s make time to share gratitude, to give to others and to remember the baby Jesus who was born into a turbulent world to show us a better way to live.

‘The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Saviour has just been born in David’s town, a Saviour who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.”’ Gospel of Luke, Chapter 2
