Science Week and Book Week Highlights
We have been very busy over the last two weeks with Science Week followed by Book Week. I commend the Science Department for their week of scientific games, trivia, activities and competitions, which kept the school community entertained while learning lots of interesting scientific facts.
It was wonderful to see Junior School and Senior School students come together to engage in science activities. My favourite event of the week was the cake display, which included the periodic table made from cupcakes.

Book Week is always a wonderful celebration of all things literary, and last week was no exception. A big thank you to our Library staff and the English Department for creating such an engaging and enjoyable program. Students loved hearing staff share their favourite stories as part of the ‘Pick the Teacher Behind the Book’ competition, which sparked plenty of curiosity and conversation.
The dress-up day remains a highlight of the week, with students, staff and parents embracing the occasion with enthusiasm and creativity. A special mention goes to our front Reception team for their standout coordinated costumes.

Thank you to everyone who took part - your efforts truly brought the joy of books to life.

Lunchtime Activities in Junior School
I am very proud of the array of lunchtime activities offered to our students by our teaching staff. As you can see from the list below, there is something for everyone. I am grateful to staff who generously give their time to engage in activities with students that everyone enjoys.
New skills are learned, and together staff and students develop relationships based on common interests. At a time when many schools cannot offer additional activities such as camps, before and after school practice sessions and lunchtime activities due to staff limitations, I am thrilled to see our staff continue to offer their own time for the enjoyment and betterment of their students.

LEAD Survey
By now, you will have received the link to the Casey Grammar School LEAD Survey. If you have not yet completed it, please find 15 - 20 minutes over the next week or two to register your opinions about the school. Here are a few points to note:
- The survey will take approximately 15 - 20 minutes to complete
- Either or both parents can answer the questions
- Parents should answer the survey thinking about their eldest child at the school
- Parents can redo the survey, answering for siblings who attend the school
- The survey asks for parents’ opinions on a range of aspects of the school
- Parents will be asked to indicate how much they agree or disagree with various statements
- Participation in the survey is anonymous and all information is treated confidentially
- Only aggregated results are provided to the school, meaning parents cannot be identified. However, open ended comments are reported back verbatim
- The report will give the school information that can be used to help make decisions about what’s working well and what might improve the school

Leaders Are Readers
Leadership has been a strong focus over the last few weeks. In Week 2, we launched our leadership application process. This provides students in Years 10 and 11 with the opportunity to apply for a range of leadership roles in the Senior School.
This was followed by an external leadership day for fifteen aspiring leaders from our school who joined 300 others for the ESA Year 11 Leadership Forum. Immediately after this, the school ran a leadership seminar for students interested in leadership in 2026, which 25 students attended.
In the Junior School, in Term 4, all Year 5 students will have a leadership incursion before they begin their leadership application process for formal leadership roles.
Aside from these roles, there are many other opportunities to demonstrate leadership: being an upstander, treating everyone with respect and compassion, being a strong and positive role model, becoming a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Rep, joining the Student Voice and many more.
As we come to the end of Book Week, it is timely to reflect on the fact that the best leaders are readers. Reading builds our understanding of the world, increases compassion and broadens our perspective. Leaders need rich and nuanced understanding of other people to bring about change, and there is always more to learn.
Cyber Safety Project - Parent Information Night
There are still vacancies for
the Cyber Safety Project Parent Night on Tuesday, 26 August. This
evening will provide parents with up-to-date information about how to
keep your students safe on the internet as well as providing a
compelling insight into how young people engage in the digital world.
This will be particularly valuable for parents of students in Years 3 - 12, but is open to any parents who would like to learn more. Parents can register for this event using this link.
