An Action-Packed Start to Term 3 in the Junior School

It has been a vibrant and engaging first half of Term 3 across the Junior School, filled with creativity, learning and community spirit.

Year 4B dazzled at their Presentation Assembly with Funky White and the 7 DJs. Their message of resilience shone through an entertaining performance full of humour, music and energetic stage presence.

National Science Week brought a wave of curiosity, with students participating in a variety of hands-on experiments. Many visited the Senior School Science Building to view the spectacular crystal displays, which were a highlight of the crystal growing competition. Our Year 6 students especially enjoyed their time working in the Senior School laboratories throughout Terms 2 and 3.

Adding a sweet twist to the week, the Science-themed cake bake-off had students marvelling at the edible creations - and casting votes to crown a winner.

Casey Grammar School had great success at this year’s RoboCup competition. Our students demonstrated strong coding and robotics skills, working collaboratively and creatively. We were thrilled to take out first place in the Standard Soccer League in a tightly contested final.

Year 1 and 2 students ventured to the Australian Gardens for a special Nature Navigators excursion. For the first time, they experienced the thrill of exploring puddles and playing in the mud. This unique opportunity deepened their connection with the natural environment and was enthusiastically embraced.

Book Week once again brought the joy of literature to life. Students engaged in a range of activities and incursions that celebrated storytelling. The week culminated in a colourful Book Week Dress-Up Parade in the Performing Arts Centre, with an incredible array of costumes representing cherished characters and books.

6K delivered a dynamic Presentation Assembly, The Power of Poetry, taking the audience through the history of poetry with rhyme, rhythm, dance and storytelling. Their creativity and performance were thoroughly enjoyed by all.

We recently farewelled Mrs Iriyadi as she commenced maternity leave for baby number three, and we warmly welcome back Mrs Driessen, who will be teaching in her place from Week 5.

Last Friday, 45 students represented our school at the District Athletics Carnival. Their sportsmanship, effort and team spirit were a credit to Casey Grammar School. It has truly been a wonderful start to the term - we look forward to what the remainder of Term 3 holds.

Years 3 - 6 House Meetings

The Years 3 - 6 students had lots of fun at their House meetings. Leaver House students enjoyed playing team games and sharing their character strengths with fellow Leaver Legends. They then inscribed their strength on a feather, which will be displayed in the Upper Primary Building.

At our recent Booth House meeting, we showed our team spirit by practising our new chant with great enthusiasm. We also celebrated the birthdays of our members, shared upcoming events including sign-ups for the House Talent Show and enjoyed hands-on fun exploring scientific concepts with balloons in celebration of National Science Week. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a House and strengthen our Booth pride.

Science Week

This term, our Year 6 students have been diving into the world of science by exploring the states of matter. This week, they were fortunate to have Senior School students demonstrate several exciting chemical reactions through a range of experiments in the Science Laboratories.

Last week, they investigated the density of different liquids using the scientific process. They began by making thoughtful hypotheses about what might happen when various liquids were combined. They then conducted hands-on experiments, carefully layering substances including fresh water, salt water and oil to observe how each behaved.

Through their investigations, students discovered that liquids have different densities, which often cause them to separate into layers rather than mix. Students also recorded their observations when they dropped effervescent tablets into the liquid mixture and discussed their findings about the density of gases compared to liquids. This engaging activity helped them understand key scientific concepts and develop their skills in inquiry, prediction and explanation.

Literacy Lunchtime Fun

Over the past two weeks, our Years 3 and 4 students have enjoyed joining in literacy games during lunchtime. Led by our dedicated Literacy Monitors, the sessions included a range of word games based on different categories where students tried their best to guess the winning words. We were thrilled to see so many students taking part and delighted to celebrate our many winners.

Over the coming weeks, we look forward to welcoming our Foundation and Year 1 students to join the fun as our sessions continue. A huge well done to our Literacy Monitors for doing such a fabulous job promoting literacy across our Junior School.

Year 3 STEM Project: Musical Hands With Meaning

Our Year 3 students have been exploring the Backward by Design learning cycle to create interactive cardboard prototypes of hands - each finger representing one of our school values. When touched, each finger plays a song that reflects the meaning of that value.

Using Makey Makey kits, students connected their cardboard hands with alligator clips to conduct signals. They then used Scratch coding, along with the Makey Makey extension, to program each finger to trigger a specific song. The result is a fun, meaningful and easy-to-use prototype that combines creativity, coding and values-based learning in one hands-on experience.
