Welcome to Term 2!

Anzac Service

We extend a very warm welcome to students and their families who have joined Casey Grammar this term.

This Anzac Day, I had the privilege of attending the service with our School Captains, Nick and Tania, Social Justic Captain, Lokavya, and their Junior School counterparts. Our student leaders represented the school with great dignity, honouring the brave individuals who have served our country, laying a wreath on behalf of all of us.

The service was a powerful reminder of the importance of remembering our history and the values of courage and mateship that Anzac Day stands for. I am incredibly proud of our students for their respectful participation and their dedication to honouring this significant day.

Year 12 Formal

During what is such a busy final year in secondary school, we don’t often get the chance to pause, connect and create some wonderful memories. The Year 12 Formal was the perfect opportunity for students and staff to dress to impress, and to come together for an evening filled with elegance, laughter and celebration. It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves, dancing and making memories that will last a lifetime. A big thank you to the organising committee who helped make this event such a success.

House Competitions

Term 1 was such an exciting term for our House competitions. With Trist narrowly beating the reigning champions, Reid, in the pool at the House Swimming Carnival, and Reid’s comeback to clinch first place at our House Athletics Carnival on the last day of term, it was evident that filling all events is what it takes to be in the running for this year’s House Shield.

At our Week 2 Assembly, we were able to present the Age Group Champions and Runners Up, and recognise the students who have set new records, some of which dated back more than a decade. Congratulations to everyone on their amazing efforts and success.

Winter Uniform

With the colder weather setting in, students should now have switched to their winter uniforms which will be worn through to the end of Term 3. In the Senior School, all students should arrive and leave school in their academic uniforms, while sports uniforms should be brought in the CGS sport bag. Wearing the blazer to and from school, as well as during excursions and formal events, is an important way to represent our school. It is expected that blazers are not left at home during the day or in lockers overnight.

Top Arts 2025 – Exhibition and Students’ Folio Viewing

Visiting the Ian Potter Centre at Fed Square for the Top Arts Exhibition was an amazing experience for our Years 11 and 12 Creative Arts Practice classes. From the moment we entered, we were surrounded by an amazing collection of Australian art, covering everything from Indigenous works to contemporary pieces.

It was inspiring to see such a wide variety of styles and techniques, and it helped us understand how artists use different materials, textures and concepts to tell powerful stories. While we appreciated learning a little about Australia’s artistic history, the main highlight was seeing the incredible range of student art portfolios from different schools.

It was exciting to see the creativity and unique ideas that other students brought to their work, using different techniques, materials and themes. Each portfolio showed a personal journey, and it gave us new ideas about how to approach our own projects. We also learnt how presentation — like framing, layout and even lighting — can make a huge difference to how art is experienced.

Seeing the diversity of styles and concepts really opened our minds to new possibilities for our creative practice and the experience left us feeling motivated and excited to apply new ideas and techniques to our own work in class. Visiting the Top Arts Exhibition was not just educational; it was inspiring, and it has given us a fresh perspective on our own creative practices and was extremely helpful in showing us what is possible with passion and hard work.

Year 12 Art Creative Practice Critiques

Year 12 Art Creative Practice has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The freedom to explore diverse ideas and experiment with a wide range of media has allowed each of us to grow in unique ways. By choosing our own concepts, we were able to address themes and social issues that hold personal meaning and inspiration.

Class critiques provided a valuable space to share our designs, build confidence in our creative abilities, and receive constructive feedback on both our final works and the developmental process.

This experience has been especially meaningful, as it enabled us to reflect on our strengths, the ideas and inspirations behind our work, and the social or conceptual issues we explored. It also helped us identify ways to further develop our artistic practice and refine our skills moving forward.

Year 10 Art Workshop

On 30 April, the Year 10 Art students participated in a drawing and painting workshop led by alumna Tina Manning. Tina shared a range of drawing and painting techniques and provided insight into the many components that can make up an art folio. Students are now equipped with newly gained skills and knowledge to carry into their upcoming painting unit, which begins this week.

Year 9 Sport Coaching

Our Year 9 Sport Coaching class had the thrilling opportunity to step into the heart of professional sport with an exclusive visit to the Melbourne Football Club. Students gained invaluable insights into the dynamic roles that power a top-tier team, including recruiters, doctors, data analysts, nutritionists, physiotherapists, personal trainers and coaches.

The experience was further enriched by a special session with the Head of Development Mark Williams, who shared his expert knowledge on coaching strategies and team dynamics.

Throughout the practice, Avi, a community outreach team member, provided a tour of the facilities as well as a detailed breakdown of the session, offering students a deeper understanding of the high-level operations and decision-making that drive the team’s success.

This immersive experience not only expanded our students’ knowledge of sport coaching but also showcased the incredible teamwork and behind-the-scenes efforts that fuel elite performance. It was an unforgettable day of learning and inspiration.
