Welcome to Term 2
It was such a pleasure to see our students return to school looking refreshed and happy to be back. I hope our parents also had a restful school holiday. We have many fantastic learning events planned for our students this term. It promises to be very busy and a lot of fun.
Welcome back!
Student Mobile Phone Policy
We have experienced some issues recently due to student misuse of their mobile phones. Students have been reminded that their phones and smart watches are banned throughout the school day. Senior School students are expected to keep their phones and other devices such as smart watches in their lockers from the start of the school day until the final bell.
Junior School students are required to give their phones and smart watches to their teacher at the start of each day and collect them at the end of the day.
We are reviewing our current Student Mobile Phone Policy. In due course, students and parents will be informed of any changes made to the policy as a result of this review.
At school, we are reminding students that under no circumstances should they take mobile phones or other devices capable of taking photos into change rooms or toilets. I urge you to remind your children of this rule. For your children’s safety, I encourage you to have similar rules in your home.
Adolescence
You may have seen the Netflix show Adolescence. This is a disturbing story of the dangers our children and young people can face in the online world. Sadly, the days of our children being safe from the hazards of the outside world in their own home appear to be gone. Now, young people can be exposed to images and ideas which in the past would have had age restrictions.
In the unrestricted online world, our children can engage in adult concepts and imagery. In the real world, we work hard to protect them from exposure to adult themes. We need to protect them as vigilantly in their online interactions. Talking to your child about their online activity is a good place to start. I found the tips provided in this article by Nell Geraets (The Age 26 March 2025) very useful.
