Financial Support for Australian Apprentices

As an Australian Apprentice, you may be eligible for financial assistance from the Australian Government to help with the costs of undertaking an apprenticeship.

The Australian Apprentice Training Support Payment is available to eligible apprentices commencing from 1 July 2022 in Priority Occupations listed on the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List.

From 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2024, Australian Apprentices training in Priority Occupations can receive assistance of up to $5,000 ($1,250 paid every six months for their first two years), to ensure they are supported to complete their training.

Trade Support Loans (TSLs) are available to eligible apprentices to assist with everyday costs while completing your apprenticeship. You can receive up to $22,890 over the life of the apprenticeship.

TSL is repaid through the tax system, after you have reached the minimum repayment threshold, ($48,361 for 2022-23). When you successfully complete your apprenticeship, you will receive a 20% discount on the amount you need to repay.

The Living Away from Home Allowance (LAFHA) is an allowance for eligible apprentices during the first three years of training.

See the Australian Apprenticeships website for more information about these incentives.

Careers in Tech

The Australian Computer Society Foundation created the ICT (Information Communications Technology) Careers Wheel as a resource to assist Australian students to identify study and employment options in the technology sector.

By grouping fields of study, skills and job roles, the map and wheel outline common pathways from study to work.

Additionally, the Foundation assists students with finding work experience placements, internships, and entry-level roles.
