It’s been an exciting two weeks in the Junior School, with Science Week and Book Week running back-to-back!

Book Week

Book Week culminated with our character dress-up day last Friday. It was a joy to once again gather in the PAC as a whole Junior School.

Students and staff paraded across the stage and named the character they were depicting. It was a clear ten out of ten for all the costumes!

Many thanks to our ever-supportive parent body for sourcing your child’s costume and we sincerely hope that we can invite you to the parade next year.

During Book Week, Mr Dunkley organised a fabulous incursion for our Years 3-6 classes with well-known author/illustrator, Mark Wilson. Our students thoroughly enjoyed learning about the process involved in formulating ideas to write and illustrate books.

Junior School Class Assembly

It was an exciting day last Thursday when our talented 6N students hosted our first Junior School class assembly in over two years and it was certainly worth the wait!

The students based their assembly around Book Week and the love of reading. We definitely have many budding actors and performers in 6N and it was great to see each class member performing so confidently up on the big stage.

A huge thanks to all students and Mr Newham for presenting us with such a memorable assembly.

Honouring Annalise’s Memory

It was with heavy hearts that our Year 5 students along with Julia, Rob and Brendan Roy, attended a service in our Chapel to honor the memory of our treasured Annalise, one year since her passing.

We appreciated Mrs Riviere-Pendle spending time with us during her maternity leave to lead our service. It was definitely a fitting tribute to Annalise.

I’d like to thank Mrs Kyne who wrote a song that our Year 5 students and Show Choir members sang in memory of Annalise. Our students also honoured Annalise by creating a beautiful mosaic artwork with our principal, Mrs Williams, that will become a permanent fixture in our reflection garden that students will continue to visit to remember their friend, Annalise.

Instrumental Concert

Recently, many talented CGS students showcased their musical skills at our Instrumental Concert. It was an opportunity for parents to gather together once again and enjoy their students’ performances. Many thanks to Mrs Kyne and our Performing Arts staff for organising such a successful event.

District Athletics Carnival

Many of our Year 3 to 6 students represented Casey Grammar at the District Athletics Carnival. They demonstrated exceptional athletic skills and a high level of sportsmanship. Congratulations to the sixteen students who have progressed through to the Divisional competition. Thank you to Mr Batey for all the organisation that went into this event.

French Crepe Incursion

A delicious aroma wafted across the school grounds last Tuesday as the Year 3 to 6 students enjoyed their French crepe incursion. Whilst each student enjoyed ordering their crepe and choice of filling in French, I am sure they enjoyed eating their crepe even more!

Father’s Day Stall

Our wonderful PFC will run our annual Father’s Day stall on Thursday 1^st September.

Students are able to purchase gifts for $5.

Wishing all our dads, grandfathers and significant others a wonderful Father’s Day this Sunday!

Junior School Production

We are eagerly awaiting our biannual Junior School production, ‘Starwarts – The Umpire Strikes Back’.

It will be performed by our Year 3-6 students on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 September.

Mrs Kyne has worked tirelessly with our students to ensure the production is a huge success, and we sent a ticketing information email to Year 3-6 parents yesterday, as tickets will sell fast!

Our Foundation - 2 students are being given the opportunity for a sneak peek of Star Warts during a full dress rehearsal performance on September 9^th.

Casey Cup

Recently, I had the pleasure of accompanying ten Year 6 students and their Coach (Year 9 student, Ebony) to Casey Stadium as they competed in the Casey Cup for netball.

Our team, the Casey Crystals, won 4 of their 5 games and made it through to the semi-finals! Whilst they didn’t win the semi-finals, everyone played well as a team thanks to their coach, and made huge improvements in their understanding of how the game is played.

All team members represented Casey Grammar with pride and displayed good sportsmanship in victory and defeat. Congratulations to you all - I am very proud of your achievements!

Junior School Science Week

This year, the theme for National Science Week 2022 was, ‘Glass: More than meets the eye’.

Students in 1H enjoyed learning about the origins of glass and were fascinated by the very long history of glass making around the world. What captivated them most was the ability to make their very own kaleidoscopes using reflective cardboard and coloured cellophane. The students thought they were simply magical!

We have enjoyed sharing these creations with each other, observing the different patterns reflected in each kaleidoscope.

Primary District Athletics

Our Junior School District Athletics Team recently headed to Casey Fields to compete.

The students showed incredible resilience and persistence in the cold, damp and windy conditions to finish 5^th overall. The level of encouragement and support shown to one another throughout the day was commendable.

A big thankyou to Ms Mepstead, Miss Hore, Miss Sutherland and Miss Woolf for attending and helping out on the day.
