Reaching out to our local community

This year has been challenging for so many, and now we are looking towards the end of the year, including Christmas (something that seems hard to believe!). For years, Casey Grammar has had a strong tradition of collecting donations for our local community at this time. As you are able to, we would love to encourage our students to participate in this, and to take the opportunity to reach out to others. Your children may even decide to do some extra chores around the house to ‘earn’ some money to purchase the donations. Here are the opportunities to participate.

Junior School

Next Friday, 6 November the Junior School will be full of colour for a House Spirit Casual Day. Along with their dress up, we would like to encourage students to bring a donation that contributes to purchasing items for our Christmas Hampers. Individual classes will not be creating a basket, but as a Junior School, we are aiming to fill a number of hampers to be delivered by the Cranbourne Salvation Army. The need for food support has only increased this year, and this is a special chance to provide a Christmas lunch for a family who may otherwise go without.

Below is an example of the types of donations students may bring, and what they can put in our hampers.

Christmas Hamper donations (Please bring your donation on Friday 6 November on our House Spirit Casual Day)

$1.50 could buy some tinned vegetables

$2 could buy a packet of sweet biscuits

$2 could buy a long life milk

$2 could buy a packet of chips

$3 could buy some tea

$4 could buy a plum pudding

$4 could buy custard

$7 could buy some coffee

$20 could buy a gift card (or you could purchase one and bring it to school)

Senior School

Over the coming weeks, Senior School students will be contributing to a pack through their Wellbeing Group. Students can contribute to a toiletries or stationary pack that will be donated to local charity, Backpacks 4 Vic Kids and distributed to children in out of home care. Alternatively, they can contribute to a handbag that will be donated to Share the Dignity, given to a woman experiencing insecure accommodation. Donations for Senior School are by Tues, Week 7 (17 November).

Any questions about either of these donation opportunities can be directed to me; m.riviere-pendle@caseygrammar.vic.edu.au

Every blessing in the week ahead. Enjoy the long weekend and your life out of lockdown!
