From the Head of Junior School

I trust everyone enjoyed our recent long weekend. It certainly seemed that both students and teachers alike needed and appreciated the break. I think we had underestimated just how tiring it would be for everyone to finally get back to regular 8:40am – 3:10pm full days of learning.

There has been much going on in our Junior School classrooms of late. It was wonderful to be surrounded by a sea of House colours last week as we raised money for families in need. In total, our Junior School raised an incredible amount of $2700. This money will be used to fill gift hampers for neighbouring families living in crisis this Christmas. It certainly warmed my heart to see the generosity of our wonderful community during these trying times for many of us.

Sincere thanks to Mrs Monique Riviere-Pendle and many of our students for creating our moving Remembrance Day services. Please see the link below for a tribute to our current and past servicemen and women from the students of 2H.

I am thrilled to announce that our Year 6 Graduation will go ahead in person this year. Unfortunately, due to COVID guidelines, we are unable to invite parents to attend but we will definitely be recording the evening for the families of our Year 6 students to enjoy.

In important news, each of our current 2020 Prep, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 classes will advance together as a group in 2021. After much consideration, this professional decision has been made in the best interest of our students and their wellbeing given the extremely disrupted 2020 school year they have endured. Each class has had less than half a year together and after learning remotely for the vast majority of Terms 2 and 3, this term has seen our students returning to class seeking reconnection and reestablishment of stable, secure relationships. Each class group has developed a sense of calm, structure and routine that they will continue to build on next year. This will alleviate any worry your child may have in relation to who is in their class next year. As is tradition at CGS, on the final day of Term 4, this year’s P-5 students will spend time with their 2021 teacher in readiness for next year.
