Zooper Doopers, Cookies and Cans for a Cause

Last Monday, it was fantastic to see two groups of our Senior School students come together in the BBQ area to set up two stalls. They did this to raise much needed funds for their 40 Hour Famine challenges. They sold out of all the home baked cookies, Zooper Doopers and drinks in about 15 minutes, raising nearly $500 in the process!

A huge thanks to Nikki, Lydia, Lokavya, Astrid, Lea, Diya, Ronit, Arav, Flynn and Levi for their preparation and work on the stalls and congratulations to them for their efforts. We are delighted to announce that we have reached our $1,000 target.

Should any members of our community wish to support our students raising funds for those facing food insecurity, please go to this link.

RAP Rep Cooking Class

As part of our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we have appointed RAP Representatives from each class in Years 3-6 to participate in a range of different experiences and share them with their class.

We recently held a cooking class where students learned about the original uses of different native plants.

For example, lemon myrtle has been ‘used by Indigenous Australians for 40,000 years, by wrapping the leaves in paperbark to flavour fish dishes, and to treat headaches by crushing and inhaling the leaves.

The leaf was used for food flavouring and as an insect repellent when the volatile leaves were burned on the campfire. A natural antiseptic paste was made with lemon myrtle leaves to help heal aboriginal wounds.’

It’s incredible to consider the ways that plants found around this country have been used for food and medicine.

We then cooked recipes using these ingredients with a more modern twist! We enjoyed strawberry gum meringue with wattleseed cream, lemon myrtle shortbread, aniseed shortbread and peppermint gum chocolate balls – everyone tried foods they had never tasted before!

Invitation for Year 1 Families

Year 1 Families are invited to join us for their child’s class Chapel service. Please look at the letter sent from the school on Monday, 1 September for details.

We are looking forward to sharing what the students have been learning in RE this term. It is an inclusive service, and we welcome all family members to share in this time with us.

Younger siblings are very welcome.

Every blessing to you all in the week ahead.
