Mother’s Day
This year’s Mother’s Day activities were well supported, and I extend my thanks to all the mothers and special friends who came along to enjoy these events. Once again, the Mother’s Day stall sold out. I hope all the mums loved their special gifts! On Friday, F–2 mothers enjoyed classroom activities with their children and then joined the rest of our mums at the Mother’s Day morning tea. It was a huge event with over 150 people in attendance. Thanks to the PFC for organising this increasingly popular event.
School Activities
The school has been a very busy place over the past two weeks. In the Performing Arts, families enjoyed the Instrumental Concert held on 9 May and the Senior School production of The Little Mermaid is undergoing final rehearsals. Please order your tickets soon for performances on 25, 26 and 27 May.
House activities include the Senior School Cross Country and upcoming House Chess and Junior School House meetings.
Last week was Careers Week and I congratulate and thank Ms Sarah Blythman, our Careers Counsellor, for organizing a week of fabulous activities. These included a focus on careers at Senior School Assembly (with past students joining a panel to talk about their careers), the Senior School Subject Selection Expo held on 16 May and a very successful F–12 Careers Dress Up day.
Senior School students are reminded that subject selections are due by 8 June. Once we receive students’ selections, we begin the task of staffing classes and constructing the timetable for 2024.
Child Safety — Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students Policy and Procedures
Friday is Sorry Day, and the following week is National Reconciliation Week. We have organised a wonderful array of learning activities for our students across the week. As an inclusive school, we are committed to learning about and including Indigenous language and culture in our school. More information about our approach to child safety and Indigenous education can be found in our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students Policy and Procedures. This policy can be found on our website or you can use the link below.
Teacher Shortages
Staff illness continues to plague us. I thank our students and parents for their cooperation as we continue to provide substitute teachers for staff who are unwell. I am also very grateful to our teachers and their colleagues who continue to provide work for their students so they can keep up to date in their studies.
Australian Education Awards Finalists
My final note is one of great joy and positivity. I am pleased to announce that Vanessa Hodgkiss and myself have been selected as finalists in the Australian Education Awards. Vanessa and I are truly passionate about a holistic approach to education and we both understand the importance of students, staff and families in developing strong results for not only academic achievement, but for inspired, thoughtful, compassionate young people as we guide them towards their futures in the wider world. Our heartfelt congratulations to Ms Hodgkiss for being such a dynamic and inspiring educator.
