2022 Destination

Bridie Forster completed the Casey VCE Pathways Program. As part of her VCE studies, she completed a TAFE course in Early Childhood Education (Certificate III) and last year, Bridie was awarded the CGS Vocational Education and Training award. The award recognised how she successfully combined TAFE and VCE studies and acknowledge Bridie’s excellent achievement in her VET course.

Subjects completed (VCE): I completed the Casey VCE Pathways Program (English, Product Design and Technology, Industry and Enterprise, VET Early Childhood, General Maths).

2022 destination: I am studying my Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Chisholm and working full time at a child care centre.

What made you choose this particular course or career pathway? I have always wanted to work with children and pursued this career through the Pathways Program in Years 11 and 12. My ultimate goal is to become a primary school teacher and this course will allow me to build upon my skills and reach this goal.

What are you most excited about as you make the transition from CGS? I am excited to put what I have learnt into good use within my selected field. I love going to work every day and seeing the children’s happy faces as I work to make a difference through their early childhood years.

Any final words of wisdom for the Senior School community? Set goals for yourself and work towards accomplishing them.

Well done, Bridie. The school community wishes you all the best.

What is the UCAT?

UCAT stands for University Clinical Aptitude Test. It is one of three main criteria used by most universities in Australia and New Zealand to select students into high demand health-related careers such as medicine and dentistry. The other two criteria are performance in final high school exams and interviews.

For a detailed list of which courses require the UCAT, please refer to this link.
Students interested in pursuing medicine or dentistry pathways at undergraduate level need to complete the UCAT in Year 12 in preparation for tertiary study the following year. It is important that students take the time to understand the structure of the UCAT and prioritise time for revision and preparation. To support students with their preparation, I encourage them to use the following resources:

I will update students on any further information about UCAT preparation. Remember: bookings for the UCAT 2022 open on 1 March 2022 for current Year 12 students.

Try Your Trade

On Sunday, 6 March, the National Electrical and Communications Association (NECA) is running a ‘Try Your Trade’ on-site expo.

The event gives students the opportunity to get some hands-on experience of using tools and a chance to talk to teachers, female apprentices and mentors. It is designed to encourage women to get a taste of what a career in the electrical industry can look like.

Try Your Trade is delivered by NECA Education & Careers as part of their Women and Their Trade (WaTT) program that focuses on empowering women to succeed within the electrical industry.
