Bravo to Our Brilliant Performers!

The past two weeks have been a busy and exciting time for the Performing Arts in our Senior School, with students across all levels taking to the stage in a range of productions.

The highlight was the School Production of The Addams Family, which ran for three nights and was a great success. Cast, crew, and musicians worked hard to bring the quirky characters and story to life - whether through performance, backstage support, or musical talent - the result was a show that was both entertaining and memorable.

A big thank you to Mr Peake for directing the show, supported by Mr Collidge (Vocal Music Director), Mr Evans (Music Director), Mrs Thompson (Choreographer), and Mrs Seal (Performing Arts Assistant). Their guidance and support were second to none, as was the presence of our wonderful school community who attended the shows.

We also want to acknowledge the work of our VCE Drama students, who presented their ensemble performances as part of their assessment. These original pieces showed creativity, teamwork, and a strong understanding of ways to present stories, ideas, and characters to their audience.

Meanwhile, the Year 10 Production of Movie Night gave younger students a chance to shine. Their performances were fun, energetic, and showed great promise for the future of Performing Arts at our school.

Being involved in a production - whether on stage or behind the scenes - teaches valuable skills like communication, problem-solving, and working as part of a team. For many students, these experiences become some of the most meaningful memories of their time at school.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week was marked across the Senior School with a range of activities that encouraged understanding, reflection, and connection.

The week began with a Sorry Day ceremony to lower the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags at half-mast. Members of the school community gathered to reflect on Australia’s history and the importance of reconciliation, and it set a thoughtful tone for the days that followed.

One of the key moments during Reconciliation Week was the opening of the arbour - a new space designed and built by the Year 11 Product Design Technologies class. The arbour includes Indigenous artwork representing each of our four Houses and will be a place for students to gather and reflect. It’s a great example of students using their skills to contribute something meaningful to the school.

At the Senior School assembly, students were reminded that learning about our shared history is something we shouldn’t leave until after school - it’s something to value now, while we have the chance to learn together.

During this assembly, the Year 11 Music class gave a rendition of the song Black Fella, White Fella, featuring a fantastic guest performance by Mr Kearney on didgeridoo.

Thanks to the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) team for their continued work in this space, and especially to Mrs Riviere-Pendle for her leadership and commitment. Reconciliation Week is an important part of our school calendar, and we thank everyone who took part.

Senior School Help Sessions

To support students with their studies, Senior School teachers are offering a range of help sessions across several subjects. These sessions provide students with a great opportunity to ask questions, revise key concepts, and build confidence ahead of assessments.

Here is a snapshot of what’s currently on offer:

  • Year 12 English – After school from 3:30pm on Wednesday or Thursday in V20
  • Years 7–12 Maths – Monday and Thursday lunchtimes in GL42
  • Year 11 French – After school on Thursday in V22
  • Years 7–12 Visual Arts – Monday to Friday lunchtimes in GL55 and GL48
  • VCE Commerce – After school from 3:15pm on Monday in the VCE Common Room

These sessions are a valuable way for students to stay engaged, ask for help when needed, and make steady progress in their subjects.

We strongly encourage students to take part in these sessions and make the most of the extra support available. There’s no need to sign up - just come along. More information can be found on posters around the school or by speaking to the relevant teacher.
